The Boston Scientific Sensor™ Wire is a hybrid urology guidewire designed to combine smooth access, dependable handling, and secure instrument support during endourological procedures. Boston Scientific describes Sensor™ as a nitinol guidewire with hydrophilic tip and calls it a preferred hybrid wire technology for kidney stone procedures.
Developed for urologists who need both access and working-wire performance in a single device, the Sensor™ wire combines a kink-resistant nitinol core, a flexible hydrophilic tip, and a PTFE-coated body. This hybrid design is intended to reduce the need for multiple wire exchanges by combining the access benefits of a hydrophilic wire with the handling characteristics of a PTFE wire.
The Sensor™ guidewire is engineered to support navigation through tortuous anatomy and past urinary tract obstructions, while also facilitating advancement of catheters and endourological instruments. The wire’s coil-to-core design helps provide direct tactile feedback, and certain versions include a 10 cm flexible proximal end intended to ease passage of a flexible ureteroscope and help minimize scope damage risk.
