The Boston Scientific CRE™ Balloon Dilatation Catheters are advanced wire-guided dilation balloons designed for endoscopic procedures to treat strictures within the gastrointestinal tract and biliary system.

Developed to support therapeutic endoscopy, these dilation catheters enable physicians to perform controlled expansion of narrowed luminal structures during procedures such as esophageal dilation, pyloric dilation, colonic dilation, and biliary interventions.

The CRE balloon system utilizes Controlled Radial Expansion (CRE) technology, which allows a single balloon to achieve three progressively larger diameters at three different inflation pressures. This innovative design enables gradual and precise dilation of strictures without the need to exchange multiple balloon sizes, improving procedural efficiency and physician control during endoscopic interventions.

Constructed from durable medical-grade materials such as Pebax®, the balloon catheter provides reliable radial force and consistent dilation performance. The balloon’s rounded shoulder design improves visualization of the stricture during expansion and helps maximize the usable dilation surface area.

CRE balloon dilation catheters are designed for through-the-scope (TTS) use with wire guidance, allowing precise positioning under endoscopic and fluoroscopic visualization. Embedded radiopaque markers assist with accurate balloon placement during the procedure, ensuring effective dilation and optimal clinical outcomes.

The CRE system is available in a wide range of balloon diameter combinations, such as 6-7-8 mm, 8-9-10 mm, 10-11-12 mm, 12-13.5-15 mm, and up to 15-16.5-18 mm, providing physicians with flexible treatment options for different patient anatomies and stricture severities.
