Asahi Tornus Coronary Microcatheter
The Asahi Tornus® Microcatheter is a specialized penetration support catheter designed to facilitate lesion crossing and guidewire support during complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures, particularly in highly stenosed or calcified coronary lesions.
Developed by Asahi Intecc, the Tornus catheter utilizes a unique braided stainless-steel coil shaft that enables rotational advancement, allowing physicians to penetrate resistant lesions that cannot be crossed by conventional balloon catheters.
Engineered for demanding coronary interventions such as chronic total occlusion (CTO) procedures, the Tornus catheter provides exceptional pushability, torque transmission, and crossability. Its spiral shaft structure allows the catheter to be advanced using controlled rotation, helping create a small channel through hard plaque and facilitating subsequent balloon dilation and stent delivery.
The catheter also features a radiopaque distal tip that enhances visibility under fluoroscopy, enabling precise positioning during PCI procedures. Designed to work with 0.014″ coronary guidewires, the Tornus microcatheter supports guidewire exchange, lesion penetration, and improved device delivery in complex coronary anatomy.
Key Features
Penetration Catheter Technology: Designed to cross highly stenosed or balloon-uncrossable coronary lesions.
Braided Stainless-Steel Shaft: Spiral wire construction provides excellent pushability, torque performance, and rotational advancement.
Rotational Advancement Technique: Allows the catheter to penetrate hard or calcified plaques by controlled rotation.
Radiopaque Tip Marker: Enhances fluoroscopic visibility for precise catheter positioning.
Guidewire Compatibility: Designed for use with 0.014″ coronary guidewires.
Low Profile Design: Available with tip outer diameters around 1.8–2.1 Fr depending on model configuration.
Usable Length: Approximately 135 cm, suitable for standard coronary intervention procedures.
Clinical Applications
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
Treatment of chronic total occlusion (CTO) lesions
Crossing balloon-uncrossable or calcified coronary lesions
Guidewire support and exchange
Preparation of lesions before balloon angioplasty and stent implantation
